Pronunciation Tricks – The Magic E
Hay algunos trucos de pronunciación como este de la E silenciosa: ciertas palabras cambian su pronunciación cuando terminan con esta E, porque tiene la virtud de que (aunque ella no suena) hace que la vocal de la sílaba anterior suene larga.
Ejemplos:
met (e corta) frente a mate (meit)
cut /cut/ frente a cute /kiu:t/
fat(fat)/ fate /feit/
hug (abrazo /hag/ frente a huge /xiug con g vibrante al final/
rat/rate /reit/
pin (alfiler, broche) frente a pine /pain/
rag (trapo) frente a rage /reig vibrante, rabia)
cope /coup/
lite (en americano igual a light, ligero) /leit/
skate /skeit/
Si va tras th, también hace que el grupo th suene muy vibrante:
bathe, clothe, loath /louzzz; = hate, odiar).
