Equivale a nuestro Ojalá/ Me gustaría...
Hay varias construcciones:
A. - wish + would (wouldn't): equivale a nuestro subjuntivo. Para decir que ME GUSTARÍA QUE ALGO FUERA DE OTRA MANERA (hay cierta molestia, impaciencia...)
   I wish the bus would come= Ojalá llegara el autobús
  *** El problema es que no se puede usar seguido de I como sujeto para hablar de nosotros mismos.
B. - wish + pasado: situaciones del pasado que ya no se pueden cambiar pero nos gustaría que hubieran sido diferentes (ojalá).  Expresa arrepentimiento (regret) por algo que se ha hecho o que no se ha hecho. Igual que antes pero se usa con I como sujeto.
    I wish I had my own car: me gustaría tener mi propio coche
            (Con was o were para suj. de 1ª p. o 3ª)
         + Past simple: I wish I was ten years younger= ojalá fuera 10 años más joven
       (O sea, que es igual usar la 1ª estructura o la 2ª si se trata de 2ª o 3ª persona)
          + pretérito pluscuamperfecto:
        I wish I hadn't bought those shoes = ojalá no me hubiera comprado estos zapatos
          + Past Continuous: I wish it weren't raining
          + could: I just wish we could get a recording contract

C. También se puede usar IF ONLY en lugar de wish. 
  - + would: If only someone would byt the house
                    
   - + pasado: If only he knew the thruth
                      If only there was something she could do or say to help
                      If only she weren't/wasn't so tired
                      If only she has been able to come
D. It's time. It's about time. 
           + sujeto: (para ser crítico con algo) It's time you learn how to cook for yourself.
                                                             It's about time you stood on your own two feet
            + inf:  (algo debería pasar) It's time to go
E. I hope + oración: I hope she comes home. I hope you didn't tell Terry what happened
     A veces con will: I hope he'll understand
F. Should/shouldn't have + past participle
     I shouldn't have worried about anything
