Listing modal verbs in film
CAN
Para escucharlo en pelis:
Father, we can't win this war.
- Presente: CAN/ TO BE ABLE TO (este usio es + formal)
- Pasado COULD / WAS, WERE ABLE TO ( suele referirse a algo puntual)
- Futuro: WILL ABLE TO
- Condicional: WOULD BE ABLE TO
- Present Perfect: I have'nt be able to....
- Cuando se necesita un gerundio: I enjoy being able to read books in other languages
- Cuando se necesita un infinitivo: I'd like to be able to...

Modales
They might come tomorrow
- They might be waiting for us at the station. (Podrían estar esperándonos en la estación)
- This might be our only chance (Esta podría ser nuestra única oportunidad.)
- I might lose my job.(Podría perder mi trabajo)
- ORACIONES NEGATIVAS:
- We might not know everything. (Puede que no sepamos todo)
- It might not rain tonight.(Puede que no llueva esta noche)
- ORACIONES INTERROGATIVAS:
Might I
give you a piece of advice? ¿Podría
darte un consejo?
Might we
speak to you for a moment? ¿Podríamos hablar contigo un momento?
ORACIONES
CON "HAVE":
They might
have finished earlier. Quizás hayan terminado más temprano.
Bob might
have died in the accident. Bob podría haber muerto en el accidente.
Miss Green
might not have been present at the time.
momento.
En realidad, para expresar la probabilidad podemos usar must, can, could, may o might.
usamos MUST:
He isn't here today. He must be ill.
algo pase usamos COULD:
Jane: What
are you going to wear at the party, Laura?
Laura: I
don’t know. I may wear my black dress. Or I might wear my jeans and a T-shirt.
Icould also wear my green skirt and a turtleneck sweater. It’s so
difficult to decide!
¡OJO CON LAS FORMAS NEGATIVAS! En estos casos May not y
might not (mightn’t) tienen un significado completamente diferente de could
not(couldn’t).
I may not /
might not come to the party.
May not / might not significan que es posible que algo
negativo pase.
I’m so
tired I couldn’t stay awake until the end.
He can’t be
ill. I saw him this morning jogging in the park. (No puede estar enfermo)
PAST MODALS
MUST/MAYMIGHT/CAN'T + HAVE + Participio pasado
I must have: Debo haber (+participio) dejado / I can't have (es lo contrario, no *musn't have)
I might have: podría haber (+participio) dejado
I may have: puede que no haya (+participio) dejado
I can't have: No puedo haber (+ participio) dejado...
SHOULD HAVE: we should have taken the second exit: deberíamos haber cogido la segunda salida
OUGHT TO HAVE: I ought to have told you earlier: debería habértelo dicho antes

¡Ojo! Si el verbo es TO BE, se suele usar WERE para todas las personas. ("If I were a boy...", cantaba Beyoncé)
WOULD YOU KNOW THAT TO DO IF...? (¿Sabrías qué hacer si...?)
... you saw a mouse in your kitchen?
... a bird flew into your bedroom?
...your neighbour's dog barked all night?
RESPUESTAS: I think I'd (probably)...
I (definitely) wouldn't...
I don't think I'd...
- If I had five extra hours every week...
- I would be very happy if...
- If I could live anywhere in the world...
- I would learn English more quickly if...
- If I won a lot of money in the lottery...
Tercer condicional:
if + past perfect + conditional perfect. Aquí tienes algunos ejemplos traducidos.

Futuro con will
Predicciones no muy informadas: I'm sure you'll like it
Decisiones espontáneas: I'll have a salade, please,
Voluntad de ayudar, ofrecimiento de hacer algo:Shall I help you?
Promesas: I'll always love you. I'll change, I promise
Después de I think... I guess (creer, suponer, adivinar) se suele usar will.
