Posición del adverbio en la oración

-Adverbios de modo: en general van detrás del verbo. He walks wery slowly
                          * si el verbo es pasivo va enmedio. The driver was seriously injured
- Adverbios de frecuencia: suelen ir delante del verbo principal o al principio si se quiere enfatizar.
He hardly ever has time for breakfast.
Sometimes, I need ti have a break.
                          * Con el verbo TO BE , va detrás del verbo. He's always late for work
                          * Si hay 2 auxiliares va detrás del primero. I would never have thought you were 40

- Adverbios de lugar y tiempo: van al final (y en este orden)
                          * My parents will be here in half an hour
- Grado: van delante de un adjetivo o adverbio
                         - extremely, incredibily, very...
                         - a lot, much van detrás del verbo
                         - a little, a bit (of) pueden ir con adj. o verbos.
I'm a bit tired. We rested a bit after the flight
- Adverbios de opinión: suelen ir al principio.
                         - luckily, basically, clearly, obviously, apparently, eventually...

- Otros adverbios suelen ir enmedio:
                         - I just need 10 more minutes
                         - She didn't even say goodbye
                         - She'll probably come in the end.

GOOD or WELL?

GOOD//WELL: Exercise

- After linking verbs such as be, taste, sound, smell, look, seem, appear we use the adjective "good" as we are describing the subject of the sentence, not the action of the verb:

The concert last night wasn't very good.

If the food tastes good, children will eat it.

Your idea sounds good and if it works would be great.

It always smells good after the rain.

The house looks good outside
.

- After the linking verbs "be", "feel", "look" we can also use "well" as an adjective meaning "healthy":

I am well. / I feel well. / I'm feeling well. (refers to physical state, health)

I am good. / I feel good. / I'm feeling good. (refers rather to emotional than physical state)

Jane didn't look well last night. (well = refers to heath)

The new dress looks really good on you. (good = refers to appearance)

Note: In the USA (conversational English) you can hear a lot of people answer "I'm good." in response to "How are you?" and it is very popular among young generation.

Bargins: gangas

Car park: (contable). there are a lot of/many car parks

Parking space(-s): zonas de aparcamiento

Strong adjectives

Los adjetivos llamados "Strong" son los que dan una idea de que algo es "muy" lo que sea, frente a los llamados adjetivos BASE, que están en grado positivo, sin graduar:

 BASE                                         STRONG
tired                                      exhausted (very tired)
good                                     fantastic, excellent, perfect
angry                                    furious
hungry                                  starving.  It is intolerable because populations, and children
in particular, are starving and are in vital need of aid
small                                    tiny
big                                       enormous, huge
afraid                                   terrified
good, nice, tasty (food)       delicious
cold                                      freezing
dirty                                     filthy          It is a "dark place," meaning we live in a dirty, filthy world
happy                                  delighted      I was delighted with the results
funny                                   hilarious
sure                                      positive, certain
surprised                              amazed
clever                                   brillant
bad                                       awful, terrible

Cuando los queramos cuantificar debemos recordar que un Adj, base lleva delante "very" o "really", pero no "absolutely": It is very/really small, un adj. strong lleva "absolutely","really", "completely", pero no "very": It is really/absolutelly  tiny

Personality

Personality adjectives answer the question: "What is he like?"
Look at these example sentences using the personality adjective "polite":

  • John is polite. John seems polite.
  • John has a polite character.
  • He is a polite person. I like polite men.
  • I wish you were as polite as John. If you were more polite I might marry you.

Formación y uso de los adverbios en inglés

Normalmente, en inglés los adverbios son muy fáciles de formar: basta con añadir -ly al adjetivo correspondiente. Ejemplo:
loud → loudly

Excepciones a esta norma:

Para true, due, y whole se elimina la -e antes de añadir -ly.

Ejemplo:   true → truly. wholw: wholly

Ejemplo: fantastic → fantastically

Formaciones irregulares:

-Good-well; hard-hard; fast-fast; late-late; difficult-difficulty.

_Para los adjetivos acabados en -ly, (friendly, elderly-de edad evanzada-; lonely- soltario) se formará el adverbio con in a … way/manner, o usando un adverbio similar.

Ejemplo: friendly → in a friendly way/in a friendly manner

              likely (probable) → probably

-Algunas palabras comparten forma para el adverbio y el adjetivo. De entre estos, los más importantes son:

daily, enough, early (precoz, temprano), far, fast, hard, hourly, kindly (amable, amablemente), little, long, low, monthly, much, straight, weekly, yearly.

Ejemplos:

a daily run → They go running daily.

a yearly concert → We go to the concert yearly.
