Los phrasal verbs son expresiones idiomáticas que se forman combinando verbos con preposiciones o adverbios. Esto da como resultado nuevos verbos compuestos con un significado muy distinto al del verbo individual.
Por ejemplo, el verbo "give" significa "dar", pero si añadimos "up", obtenemos "give up" con el significado de "abandonar", "desistir", "desesperarse"... "I need to give up smoking"
RECUERDA QUE CUANDO EL OBJETO ES UN PRONOMBRE SIEMPRE VA ENTRE EL VERBO Y LA PARTÍCULA (preposición o adverbio) EXCEPTO EN LOS INSEPARABLES.
Ejemplos:
- I'll pay it back
- Shall we turn it on?
- Can you write it down?
- I called her back when I got home
- She'll give them back on Friday
Pero:
- Can you help me look for them?
- Are you looking forward to it?
- We don't get on with them.
- My mum usually looks after my kids.

Turn (sth) down/up: bajar/subir (el volumen) . Turn down the music! Turn up the TV!
Turn (sth) on/off: apagar o encender.
Look (sth) up: buscar (información). He looked up the words in a dictionary.
Look forward to (insep): esperar, tener muchas ganas de. I'm really looking forward to the holidays.
Look after (inseparable): velar por, cuidar. Who will look after the children while we're away?
Look for (inseparable): buscar (algo que se ha perdido)
Find (sth) out: descubrir, enterarse de.
I want to find out about hotels in Madrid.
Fill (sth) in: rellenar, completar. Could you fill in this form?

Take (sth) off: quitarse (la ropa). could you take off your boots, please? despegar (un avión)
Take (sth) back: devolver. Take back this book as soon as possible, many students need it!
Take after: parecerse a, i take after my mother = Look like: He looks like his father
Take down (notes): tomar nota de algo = write down
Take out: llevar.
Be over: terminar (informal).
The match will be over at about 5.30
Go away: irse. Go away!
Go out: salir (fuera, a otro país o salir con alguien). I'll go out to France. Tom was going out with my sister.

Get up: levantarse
Get on/off: subir o bajarse de un autobús, tren o avión
Get in/out: subir o bajarse de un coche. Get in the car!
Get on with (inseparable): llevarse bien
Stand up: ponerse de pie
Sit down: sentarse
Try (sth) on: probarse. I tried the shirt on and decided I didn't like it.
Give back:devolver. Dou you give me back the pen I lent you?
Call back: devolver la llamada
Pay back: devolver (dinero)
Switch off/on: encender/apagar
Put on: ponerse. Put your coat on. Put it on. (vídeo engvid)
Carry on: continuar.
Carry on working in the same way! you're doing great!
Hang: colgar
Just clear a space at your refrigerator where you can hang your childs photos
Hang out: tender
Hang up: colgar el teléfono
To TAKE OUT FROM a cash machine
To live OFF: VIVIR DE. She has to live off her parents while she's at university.
TO LIVE ON: vivir con. It's difficult to live on only one salary.
To take out: sacar. I tokk out $200 from a cash machine
to Pay back: devolver dinero
