Verb patterns

“I stopped smoking” or “I stopped to smoke”?: I stopped to talk or I stopped talking? What is the difference in meaning? In this lesson, we will look at the verb to stop and when it should be followed by a gerund or an infinitive. The meaning of I stopped to smoke and I stopped smoking is very different. Verbos que cambian el significado:
STOP:   + TO INF à “parar para hacer” algo:
                                I can’t stop to gossip now. I stopped to smoke. (Paré a fumar)
              + -ing à “dejar de hacer” algo de modo definitivo:
                              He’s going to stop eating to lose weight. I stopped smoking (dejé de fumar)
REMEMBER: + TO INF à tomar nota para hacer algo en el future: 
                              Remember to leave clean your room
                       + -ing àrecordar algo que se hizo en el pasado: 
                             He remember getting grounded every weekend
TRY: + TO INF: hacer un esfuerzo para hacer algo difícil: 
                        I’ll try to do it better. I’m trying to find how this machine work

        + -ing: hacer algo para probar algo nuevo: 
                      Try closing all programs
